Amending the constitution: some change is good
An amendment, or changing in the wording of the constitution, most often happens when somebody somewhere thinks that something needs to change, be legalized, or made illegal. The process can take anywhere from a few months to many, many years. There are 4 ways the constitution can be amended.
They are as follows....
Proposal by convention of states and ratification (approval) by state conventions
Proposal by convention of states and ratification by state legislatures
Proposal by Congress and ratification by state conventions
Proposal by Congress and ratification by state legislatures
Not all methods have been used, but they are all possible.
A good example of an amendment, or amendments, to the Constitution is our Bill of Rights, which is the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution.
